Tom Waits. Así fue

The 2011 class of inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame included Alice Cooper, Darlene Love, Neil Diamond, Dr. John, and beloved weirdo Tom Waits. The induction ceremony went down March 14 at New York's Waldorf-Astoria, and was aired on Fuse on March 20. As Consequence of Sound points out, video of the ceremony has now hit the internet. Below, watch footage that includes Neil Young's induction speech and Waits accepting the honor and performing a couple of songs, "Make It Rain" and "Rain Dogs".

Waits also played "Get Behind the Mule", with Young guesting on guitar, as well as "House Where Nobody Lives"; you can watch a fan-made video of that "Get Behind the Mule" performance here.

Waits was in full-on demented-preacher mode during his performances, always a glorious thing to watch. But the best part of the 13-minute clip below may be Waits' words to the audience. Every time that guy opens his mouth to do anything but sing, absurdist stand-up comedy seems to come out, and he gets in plenty of great lines in an otherwise humble and even moving speech. Best bit: "They say that I have no hits, and that I'm difficult to work with. And they say that like it's a bad thing".
